The Antelope Discrete 8 is a Thunderbolt/USB audio interface from Antelope Audio. Now offering eight six-transistor console grade fully discrete microphone preamps and highest quality convertors to enhance the sound quality and power, it is the perfect fit for commercial facilities, home studios and mobile recording.
The preamps can handle up to 121 dB of dynamic range, and are hand-designed by the team at Antelope to offer world class sound. The FPGA engine transforms the internal preamp into several classic preamps using Accusonic modeled tubes, transformer and FET based circuitry in real time. Bipolar transistors keep THD and noise extremely low, which is uncommon in a discrete design.
Discrete 8 offers a total of 28 inputs and 32 outputs via analog, S/PDIF or two ADAT connections. Also features two headphone outputs as well as two re-amp outs.
The signal path was designed for optimal sound with any microphone and especially when used with Antelopes new Edge and Verge microphones with matching discrete electronics.
Choose between 10 different industry standard microphone preamps. The preamp can be monitored and recorded in real time using the on board DSP system. If you wish to record without printing the sound of the preamp, Accusonic modeling can be added after the recording phase, providing unlimited flexibility in the mix.
The real-time FPGA platform covers all the bases of a professional recording facility. Microphones, preamps, conversion, compressors, EQ and monitoring all have the ability to instantly recall presets, you can even load up presets from today’s top engineers with their favorite combinations of FPGA FX used on their mixes or recordings.
Discrete 8 features Antelope’s 4th Generation AFC clock used on the popular Trinity OCX-HD, LiveClock, Pure2, Goliath, Orion, and Zen products. There is a WC input that can de-jitter and distribute the external clock signal. With the three WC outputs, expand the Discrete 8 with other digital gear and mic preamps with it’s ADAT and S/PDIF connections, keeping all gear perfectly in sync.
The monitoring section has been expanded with four individual monitoring mixes as well as a talkback section. This provides the engineer to create custom mixes for each performer with effects included so the artist can hear the recording process similar to the finished mix. You can create custom presets to easily setup various tracking scenarios.
The talkback mic and hardware button are built into the front panel. Talkback can also be engaged by inserting a footswitch to the rear panel.
Using Antelope’s downloadable remote app, you can adjust just about every feature of the Discrete 8 remotely. This means the musicians can adjust their own headphone volumes on their phones and the engineer can be worried about recording levels in the control room.
