The AMEK Channel in a Box (CIB) was the first module in the Pure Path range of creative signal processing devices. Inspired by the success of the 9098i, the no compromise design of the CIB combines Mic Pre-Amp, Line Amplifier, Hi and Lo Pass Filters, 4 Band Equaliser and Classically Inspired Compressor, all carefully designed into a 1U-rack space.
Mic Input The Mic Input is a TLA (Transformer-Like Amplifier). A rotary switch is provided to step the Gain range with a continuously variable Trim. The Mic Input impedance is 5k0 Ohms, producing extremely low loss from 150 or 200 Ohms microphones.Line input The Line Input is a 10k0 balanced and floating transformer design which provides excellent isolation and protection against ground currents and unwanted signals.Filters and EQ The Filters and EQ stages are virtually identical with those of the AMEK 9098i In-Line Console including familiar features such as 'GLOW' and 'SHEEN'. The result is an EQ that is highly effective without being in any way aggressive in character.CompressorThe Compressor Section is an all analogue design which musically emulates the best of Mr. Rupert Neve's past designs. Compression ratio up to 40:1 is provided, virtually a limiter but without the aggressive sound of a limiter. When the 'Link' button is enabled, identical gain reduction can take place when two or more CIBs are linked together. The gain reduction applied is from whichever path has the greatest signal.Output SectionA Rotary Fader prior to the output stage allows control of the each of the path's signal levels. Connections for 5k or 10k ohms external faders are provided via XLR connectors. There has been growing realisation that, in spite of the sonic limitations of digital sound processing, a very high quality analogue signal path at the input will reflect throughout the whole audio chain and go a long way to satisfy the professional sound engineer. With careful attention to the interfaces the character of the input signal can be preserved throughout the entire system. The trend to higher digital resolution makes it even more important that we focus carefully on the integrity of signals fed to the input.
