AEA TRP2 Ribbon Microphone Preamp
Product Description
The AEA TRP2 Ribbon Microphone Preamp is a fresh take on the first preamp exclusively designed with ribbon mics in mind. The characteristic of a ribbon microphone will drastically change depending on the gain and impedance in the signal path, the AEA TRP2 offers ultra-clean high-gain and high impedance ensuring you get the best possible sound from your ribbon mic. The TRP2 offers up to 85 dB of output, delivering more gain than almost any other preamp on the market.
Due to advancements in ribbon technology, the new TRP2 now includes a phantom power switch, as nearly half of the AEA ribbon mic line now requires phantom power. For the overly cautious engineer, a “No Blow Switch” has been included to prevent unwanted phantom power from hitting your passive ribbon mics.
If you’re using the TRP2 outside the United States, a universal switching supply is included to eliminate the need to swap out the power supply.
Designed in half-rack format, two TRP2s can be mounted in the Mid-Atlantic shelf and only take up one space in the rack. Custom rack ears can be purchased for mounting a single TRP2 in one rack space.

Product Reviews

Our AEA R88a microphone was not working at all using the preamps on a Canon XA55 video camera to record live, unamplified classical music. No matter what we did there was a produced a nasty hum in the line. The AEA TRP2 preamp solved the problem COMPLETELY and the resulting sound is GORGEOUS. So yes, a total $3500 outlay was a bit more than we planned, but nevertheless it is a bargain compared to other company's equipment required to achieve the same beautifully nuanced outcome.
