Over half a decade of pushing the envelope has led to the latest ribbon mic in the AEA's arsenal: the AEA KU5A Supercardioid Ribbon Microphone. can deliver the audio spectrum in detail, for both live sound and studio recording.
The KU5A is an exciting and innovative microphone that advances the art of ribbon mic technology. By designing the mic around a supercardioid polar pattern, the KU5A is extremely versatile. Not only can it reject reflections from studio walls, but also ambient noise on the concert stage. And in either venue, the focused pattern reduces unwanted instrument bleed.
Vocalists can sing right into the grille of the KU5A without fear of proximity effect or blowing out the ribbon; the internal acoustic protection is the most extensive of any mic that AEA offers, and the selectable high pass filter can tame those unwanted lows. All the while, the extended high end gives a presence that beautifully balances the classic ribbon tone that you demand from an AEA microphone.
The KU5A is at home on the road or in the studio, with a heavy-duty construction and active electronics that play nicely with a wide range of preamps. Put it in front of guitar cabs, snare drums, brass players and vocalists. It can handle them all and then some. The KU5A is made to deliver clarity and depth in any situation; it’s like no other ribbon mic made, by AEA or anyone else.
This mic sounds great on everything I have put it on.
I love this mic! Sounds great. Pairs well with other mics. It's beautiful and gives musicians confidence when the sing and play into it. Buy it!
Love the KU5A. Kind of addicted to buying from Vintage King right now. Great service. Special shout out to Tyler who's been helping me make sense of my own situation and gear that might fit my workflow. And many thanks for the great discounts. Makes buying "new" a lot easier.
This microphone sounds wonderful. I mostly use in on vocals and with no EQ it's still cuts right on top of the mix. AEA is a great company and this is a killer microphone to have in your locker.
Fantastic sounding mic! Pretty much my new favorite for guitar cabs. I haven't tried it yet on drums, but I'm sure it will be stellar there too. All the sweet ribbon tone, warmth, and detail, but thanks to the tight supercardioid pattern, spl handling, and frequency response, it can go where dynamics normally live, giving you close miced power and weight without the usual low end build up. Just awesome.
I got it for vocals. It’s so fu***** good on vocals It’s so good on everything Just get it and stop procrastinating
I love this Mic. For clarity and low noise, for the way my voice sounds (rich and vibrant) and for the ease of positioning,. Hardly any eq required (and that only for vanity). I record Audiobooks for a living and although the "Experts" told me a ribbon mic was not suitable for this work I got it anyway as I have been trying to get that old school radio drama sound. I've got it now and I won't be changing back to condenser mics. Set above my monitor and angled towards my voice it is the perfect sound for my work.
Gorgeous sound, and the most intense room-noise rejection of any mic I've used, which is a phenomenal advantage in an NYC home studio.
Love it. Great ribbon sound without bleed and room issues. Very versatile.
Use it all the time. I also have Beyer M160s, Royer 121, AEA R88, and a Crowly and this thing is its own beast. Perfect price point as well.
