3rd Power American Dream Combo Amp

The American Dream was designed from the ground up for players who are drawn to the distinctive early and mid '60s sounds coming out of Fullerton, CA. Channel one is based on the '62 Brownface complete with its signature mid-bump voicing that confidently cuts through a mix. When driving this channel with guitars equipped with P-90s or humbuckers a little elbow grease is all you need to send it into a complex tweed-style breakup. Channel two is based on the '65 Blackface complete with its signature clean headroom and mid-scoop voicing that delivers a plump and juicy mid ‘60s American guitar tone that is wide, rich and spanky without getting in the way. Of the two, this channel has an uncanny ability to stylistically travel wherever your pedalboard will take you.

 

Individual channel levels are handled by separate volume controls. Macro volume levels are controlled via a front panel Pentode/Triode switch (full output or 50% output power). Precise control of volume levels is handled by the patent-pending HybridMASTER™ control located on the rear panel. HybridMASTER is a proprietary technology that effectively gives the player single-knob control over the perceived volume of their performance without degradation in sound quality or feel.

 

The amplifier is finished with a high-quality tolex covering with a distinctive piping treatment that visually calls out the uniqueness of the internal structure of the enclosure. A deep black powdercoat finish on the chassis contrasts perfectly the sharp white silkscreen control markings on this purpose-built unit. Ivory vintage-style pointer knobs communicate intuitively letting you know exactly where your controls are set from across the room even in low lighting.

 

Further sonic detailing is made possible via the SwitchBACK™ enclosure design. Notably, players can choose the sound and feel of either an "open-back" or a "closed-back" cabinet by way of a removable triangle port lid. When closed, the sonic performance is distinctly tight and punchy in the tradition of a larger multi-speaker cabinet. When opened, the space is filled with a wide sonic footprint that seems to span much further than you might imagine a single 12" combo would.

 

Greatly enhancing the vintage experience, the enclosure construction creates individual compartments for the speaker, preamp tubes and power tubes. This isolation of critical elements helps give the American Dream™ a performance typical of a head and cabinet - free from the rattles and buzzes that affect many all-in-one combos - and puts it in a manageable 112 combo enclosure. Heat from the tubes is aptly vented via the jet black powder-coated steel side vents keeping operating temperatures in check.

 

Updated in 2012, the American Dream boasts greater headroom now with 38/18 watts output. Of course, HybridMASTER™ is on hand to tame the overall volume to match the occasion.
