UnderTone rackmount EQs, mic preamps, and compressors offer infinite ways to manipulate sound using Class-A circuitry and unique combinations of parameters. Modern consoles lack vintage sound, while vintage consoles lack flexibility. UnderTone found the perfect balance and applied the concept to make equipment for engineers who want high-end studio technology in a rackmount format. A single UnderTone unit will excel at whatever you need it to do.

Eric Valentine, owner and founder, created UnderTone Audio as an outlet to build flexible gear for engineers, mixers, and producers outside his own studio, Barefoot Recording. Aside from cutting records for famous acts like Queens of the Stone Age, Slash, and Nickel Creek, he develops gear for audio engineers who want studio-grade hardware without investing in a full console. UnderTone Audio only uses Class-A circuitry and high-end mic preamps from its custom recording consoles to make products that outperform the rest.
The MPEQ-1 was the first creation designed under the banner of UnderTone Audio. This versatile box is a 19-inch rackmount Class A mic preamp, equalizer, and DI all in one. Like other products from UnderTone Audio, the MPEQ-1 is vintage console circuitry in a single box packed with the brand’s custom mic preamp and tons of options: I/O pads, bypassable input or output transformers, impedance switching, and plenty of ways to pull rich sonic color out of every channel. The mic preamp also has incredibly low distortion levels for projects that require the cleanest sound possible. The MPEQ-1 goes far beyond what any EQ plugin can do.
UnderTone Audio’s UnFairchild 670M II replicates everything extraordinary about the classic Fairchild circuit that has been used on countless records throughout the decades. The basis of its design is simple, yet it can produce quite a few different flavors of compression. UnderTone Audio added unique improvements to combat limitations of the original Fairchild. At its core, the UnFairchild 670M II is built with improved circuitry for an overall longer lifespan. It sports six original preset Time Constants and four variable Time Constants (attack and release), MS function, side chain processing, a true bypass, fine adjustment of left/right balance, user adjustable DC Threshold, and Feed-Back vs. Feed-Forward functionality. The UnderTone Audio UnFairchild 670M II is fully capable of handling just about every compression task for any music genre.
Everybody needs a reliable mic preamp; the MPDI-4 fits the role perfectly. It’s a single rack, 4-channel microphone preamp designed using the same technology and concepts behind classic recording consoles. It’s often difficult to push a microphone preamp to get rich sound without clipping but, the onboard output pad on the MPDI-4 drops the output by 10db for plenty of room to drive it without clipping the front end of your digital workstation. From a design perspective, this is made possible by altering the ratio of the output transformer. The input and output transformers are bypassable with controls on the front of the device for added convenience. With the MPDI-4, you’ll be rewarded for pushing the limits of sound.
