Long known as the godfather of pro audio, Rupert Neve has been creating incredible innovations since his teenage years, including everything from transistors on up to consoles. The Portico 500 Series from Rupert Neve Designs takes the knowledge and craft of over six decades of audio products and condenses it down into the handy, dandy 500 Series format. The end results are five modules that can make an immediate impact on the sound of your productions.

We recently headed down to Austin, Texas to visit with Rupert Neve and his staff. While talking to Tristan Rhodes of Rupert Neve Designs, we rolled tape and captured a product breakdown for each module in the Portico 500 Series and the R6 500 Series Rack. Watch below to get an in-depth overview of each piece and find out more about how Rupert's technology has made its way to 500 Series racks all over the world.

Rupert Neve Designs 500 Series Overview

Rupert Neve Designs R6 500 Series Rack:
RND's take on the 500 Series rack features six-slots, incredible power and versatile connections to fit into any studio's workflow.

Rupert Neve Designs Portico 511 Mic Preamp:
The 511 incorporates the 517′s powerful preamp, the 5012′s universally useful sweepable high pass filter and the transformer-saturating power of a variable silk circuit derived from the Portico II Channel.

Rupert Neve Designs Portico 543 Compressor/Limiter:
As a fully controllable compressor-limiter with feed-forward/feed-back modes, Peak/RMS detection and a built-in sidechain high-pass filter, the Portico 543 offers incredibly rich warmth, flexibility and precision.

Rupert Neve Designs 551 EQ:
One of Rupert Neve's most beloved designs now comes in the 500 Series format, as the three band EQ of the 551 brings thick lows, powerful midrange and sweet highs.

Rupert Neve Designs Portico 542 Tape Emulator:
Want the warmth of tape on your tracks? The Portico 542 delivers the thick, musical simulation of tape and also includes a soft-clip circuit that tames the harshest sources and enhances 2nd-order harmonics, a variable and versatile Silk/Texture circuit.

Rupert Neve Designs Portico 517 Mic Pre And Compressor:
The 517 was the first 500 Series module designed by Rupert Neve and features a transformer-coupled preamp, compressor and DI circuitry, with Vari-phase, Silk and DI/mic blending capabilities.
