Acoustic guitars can be a extremely versatile instruments in the studio, capable of everything from intimate finger-picking to bombastic sounds. In order to record acoustic performances properly, you'll need a mic that can capture the subtle nuances of every single note strummed.
We recently took over Vintage King Los Angeles and enlisted the services of blues guitarist Kirk Fletcher for a full-scale acoustic guitar mic shootout. Utilizing over 20 different microphones from our locker, we captured Fletcher’s playing through studio standards, vintage classics and some of our own personal favorites.
To discover the sonic sensibilities that make each one of these microphones unique, we've brought together all of the tracks from our session. Get a quick overview of each track below or perform your own shootout by downloading the Pro Tools session or raw WAV files and stacking the mics against each other.
I'm a VK customer (mostly deal with Jeff Ehrenberg) and recently had reason to require a bit of customer service. In the interest of brevity, I just wanted to let you know that Amanda (I don't even know her last name) was nothing less than terrific in dealing with my issues.
She was totally 'on top' of the whole thing, even though it also involved an SSL rep from the U.K. etc. She never just 'dropped it' once I was in SSL-land, and was friendly, knowledgeable, and was easily the single best Customer Service experience I've ever had.
